West Palm Beach (FL) Fire Department Acquires Four New Fire Apparatus

The West Palm Beach Fire Department has bought four new fire engines, reports The Palm Beach Post.

Three of the fire engines were purchased for $674,745 each. A fourth was obtained through a lease. Four fire stations in the city will each get one of the new engines.

The city is working to allow members of the public to come see the new fire engines in the neighborhoods where they are being put into use.

The older trucks were requiring many repairs and were not diesel fuel efficient. The vehicles date as far back as 2008.

Williamsburg (VA) City Council Approves Fire Station Construction

The Williamsburg City Council unanimously voted to demolish and rebuild a 31,000 fire station, reports WAVY.com.

The city will enter a contract with a construction company for a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of
$13.6 million. The funds were solicited through the Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act.

Demolition is scheduled to begin in early 2022 ahead of the new station opening in late spring 2023.

Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association Selects U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers for 2021 Life Safety Advocate Award

Alabama Congressman Recognized for Work to Keep Fire Extinguishers on Military Installations

CLEVELAND, Ohio (June 10, 2021) – The Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association has selected Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama’s 3rd congressional district for its 2021 Life Safety Advocate Award.

“As the Ranking Member of the Armed Services Committee, Representative Rogers has worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of our nation’s service members by keeping fire extinguishers on all military installations,” said Guy Jones, president of the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association. “The Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association appreciates all Rep. Rogers’ efforts, and we congratulate him on this award.”

The annual Life Safety Advocate Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the safety of the public through innovative efforts, including legislative, educational, enforcement or other effective means.

Rep. Rogers was presented the award during an event on June 8, 2021, at Amerex Corporation—a manufacturer of fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems—in Trussville, Alabama.

The Alabama congressman was first elected to Congress in 2002. He is a recognized leader on key national security issues, and with three military installations located within his congressional district, a strong advocate for service members and their families. Rep. Rogers is a sixth generation East Alabamian and son of a firefighter. He has been married to his wife, Beth, for more than 35 years; they have three children.

Des Plaines (IL) Fire Department Getting $223k Rescue Squad

The Des Plaines (IL) City Council recently approved $223,430 for the purchase of a new rescue squad for the Des Plaines Fire Department, reports dailyherald.com.

The squad will be custom built by Alexis Fire Equipment and delivered to the city in 8-11 months, town officials say. The apparatus will be loaded with gear for medical emergencies, hazardous material spills, dive rescues, and more.

It will be housed at Station 63 at 130 E. Thacker St., and it will be the station’s primary assist unit for medical emergencies. A crew of up to two firefighters will man the vehicle.
