Boston (MA) Man, 37, Arrested for OUI After Crashing into Natick Fire Department Apparatus

Boston (MA) man Carlens Rigaud is facing multiple charges, including operating under the influence, after he crashed his vehicle into Ladder 1 in Natick around 1:50 p.m. yesterday, reports wcvb.com.

The crash happened on South Main Street, and witnesses say a vehicle driven by the 37-year-old Rigaud was traveling south at a high speed when it collided with the Natick Fire Department’s apparatus, which was traveling north.

The suspect’s vehicle continued after the collision and narrowly avoided Engine 1. Rigaud’s vehicle did hit another vehicle that was heading south before coming to a stop.

A Natick firefighter and the driver of the vehicle struck by Rigaud’s vehicle suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Rigaud was arrested and charged with OUI, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, a marked lanes violation, and possession of a taser without an FID card.

Manchester (NH) School of Technology Receiving Donated E-One Pumper

On Wednesday, the Manchester (NH) Board of School Committee (BOSC) Finance and Facilities Committee recommended the acceptance of a 1991 E-One pumper offered by Covenant Fire Protection LLC, reports manchesterinklink.com.

The apparatus will be used as a prop for Manchester School of Technology’s Fire Science and EMT training program, teaching students how to deploy tools, hose, and ladders while eschewing the hour drive to the New Hampshire Fire Academy.

The pumper is valued at approximately $20,000, but it would not cost the Manchester School District anything beyond the approximately $1,000 a year for routine maintenance, which officials say can be obtained via grants.

Although officials advised not to obtain an insurance policy for the apparatus, it was insured. If approved by the full BOSC, it will be placed in a covered, outside area at the school and will be driven off the school occasionally to the Sununu Youth Corrections Center on River Road for second-floor-rescue classes.

Officials Announce Finish of Lancaster (PA) Fire Station Construction

Construction on Lancaster’s first new fire station in more than 45 years has been completed, reports Fox 43.

Crews at the roughly $6.5 million station are expected to run 4,000 calls for service each year. The station will house the City’s two specialized fire units – Engine Company 1 and Truck Company 2.

A key component in this station design is how it controls dangerous contaminants. The fire station, which is broken up into three zones to address the issue: the Hot Zone (dirty), that includes fire apparatus and equipment rooms, the Cold Zone (clean) that includes administrative and living spaces, and the Transition Zone between.
