Thorpe (PA) Fire Stations Need Repairs

Two Thorpe fire stations are in need of repair, reports Times News Online.

At one fire station, the wood around the bay window has started to deteriorate. The other has on-going issues with the floors.

The borough is waiting for the Commonwealth Financing Authority to meet regarding the grant application for $32,850.

Jim Thorpe is projected to receive $460,428 in federal stimulus money from the most recent package, but borough officials don’t know when that will arrive and it’s unlikely that could be used for this project.

According to Jones County Fire Coordinator Kyle Brooks, this order is for replacement trucks. He said the department chose the Ferrara FC-94 due to its great price point and the county’s previous work with Ferrara.

“Being able to get a custom pumper in that price range was a main determining factor,’’ Brooks said. “We’ve also been very satisfied with the Ferrara fire trucks we’ve purchased in the past. It was a unanimous decision to go with Ferrara. These trucks are really going to benefit Jones County.”

Brooks said Jones County Fire Service is comprised of 18 volunteer departments, one combination department and one full-time department. “We appreciate Jones County Fire Service continuing to trust in Ferrara for their fire apparatus needs,” said Bert McCutcheon, Vice President and General Manger for Ferrara. “We know these six trucks will meet the specific needs of this department as they serve and protect the citizens of Jones County.”

Temecula (CA) Unveils $1.2 Million Ladder Truck

The city of Temecula (CA) has unveiled a $1.2 million custom-built 57-foot ladder truck, reports Patch.com, which replaces its 2003 predecessor.

The new truck, which will be housed at Station 73, features nine ladders ranging in lengths up to 101 feet and a camera at the ladder’s tip that aims to give firefighters on the ground a clearer view of critical situations, the report said.

The 2003 truck will still be used on a reserve basis and will be parked at Fire Station 95 off Butterfield Stage Road.
