Sheldon (IA) Fire Co. Needs a New Ladder Truck

Following an accident on March 18, there’s an urgent need to replace the 1994 Spartan Aerial ladder truck in Sheldon (IA) Fire Co.’s fleet, reports NWestIowa.com.

Originally set for the 2024-25 fiscal year, the upgrade needs expediting after a maple tree’s branch on March 18 heavily damaged the truck’s ladder extension, which was rehabbed in 1994. Aside from the truck’s aerial, which has since been taken out of service, there were no injuries.

The damaged truck is still valued at $164,000. New ladder trucks cost between $1 million and $1.5 million, while used trucks run half of that depending on wear and tear.
