Registration Begins for Ninth Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field

The 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be commemorated during the ninth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field on September 11, 2021. Co-sponsored by the Green Bay Metro Fire Department and Pierce Manufacturing, registration is now open with 100 percent of the funds to directly benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).

APPLETON, Wis. – Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, announced today that registration is now open for the ninth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb taking place on the steps of historic Lambeau Field on Saturday, September 11, 2021. Pre-registration and event details are available at piercemfg.com/climb. Co-sponsored by the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, the event is not just for first responders – but all who want to take part in honoring the 343 fallen firefighters of September 11, 2001.

Last year’s 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb was held virtually due to the pandemic, following the prior year’s record attendance which included 2,700 residents, firefighters, and local businesses, who together raised more than $135,000 to directly benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).

“The 9/11 terrorist attacks are still a vivid memory as many remember watching the events of that tragic day on September 11, 2001, and how we came together as a nation in the months following,” said Chief David W. Litton of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. “This year’s 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field is really special because not only does it take place on Saturday, September 11, but it is also the 20th anniversary of that fateful day. We are grateful to have the opportunity this year to come together in-person to honor the fallen heroes and raise critical funds for the NFFF.”

The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is not a timed race, and anyone is welcome to participate regardless of age or fitness level. Participants are invited to ascend the equivalent of 110 stories – the height of the fallen World Trade Center Towers – on the steps of Lambeau Field. Each climber is given a badge with the name and photograph one of the fallen firefighters to symbolically complete the climb. At the equivalent of the 78th floor of the World Trade Center towers (the highest level reached), each climber will ring a fire bell in honor of the firefighter represented on their badge.

Berea (OH) Considering Adding Weight Room to Station

Berea (OH) city council is considering approving the construction of a weight room at the 2 Prospect St. station, reports Cleveland.com. Personnel currently has a few pieces of equipment it can access in the boiler room, which, officials say, isn’t safe.

The addition, which has been floated for several years, would be an enclosed room about 15 to 20 feet where an outdoor patio currently sits. The patio would be relocated to the other side of the building. Some new fitness equipment is anticipated to be purchased to supplement what they already have.

The estimated total project cost is between $50,000 to $75,000, according to officials.

Hovland (MN) Volunteer Fire Department Adds New Engine, Celebrates

The volunteer fire department in Hovland (MN) recently added a new engine to its fleet and held a public celebration, reports kbjr6.com. The new apparatus replaces the department’s 37-year-old truck.

Following a year of fundraising, the department hoped to get at least $20,000 for its truck to purchase it from the Bloomington Fire Department—and ended up with more than $40,000 with a $5,000 grant given by the North Shore Health Care Foundation.

“We are grateful to the North Shore Health Care Foundation for their significant grant award, as well as to Boreal Community Media and KBJR News for their support and assistance in spreading the news of our fundraising efforts,” the department wrote in a press release.

“Our deepest thanks go out to all the community members of Hovland, Cook County, and beyond for their immediate and generous response to our call for assistance. Because of their contributions, we exceeded our monetary goal, allowing us to not only purchase the fire engine, but to outfit it with the proper safety equipment.”
