The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

Video: Pierce Impel 1,500/1,000 Pumper Walk-Around

Because of the harsh weather conditions in Farmington, Minnesota, Farmington Fire Rescue added the cold climate package to its 1,000-gallon Impel PUC Pumper. The pump panel has an aluminum heat enclosure, electric gauge heater, pump and plumbing compartment heater, and rubber boots around the plumbing.  The rear of the apparatus features a lowered hosebed with hatch compartments along the sides in addition to storage for ladders, pike poles, 6” hard suction, and traffic cones.

Dearborn Heights (MI) Fire Department Gets Fire Apparatus

 
 
The truck is housed at Dearborn Heights fire headquarters on Beech Daly where firefighters have been familiarizing themselves with it over the past several weeks. The truck is known in firefighting jargon as a “quint” – short for quintuple – for its five main components. The red behemoth carries a water tank, pump, hose, and ground ladders – four features common on traditional DHFD rigs. The quint has those four, plus the tall ladder.
