Tornado Demolishes Mississippi Community's Only Fire Station

Terry Tucker, Monroe County fire coordinator, told the Clarion Ledger the entire building which housed the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department was almost entirely destroyed.

"Right now the only thing that is left in the building is the office," Tucker said.He said the station served 1,400 households and one fire has been reported since the storm.

Newborn Left at Phoenix Fire Station

 
 

Phoenix fire officials say firefighters at a station on the city’s west side were working out Monday morning when a woman holding a baby rang the doorbell.  

The crew says the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was a friend of the baby’s mother. She said the mother did not feel she could take care of the infant.

Phoenix fire department spokesman Jake Van Hook says the firefighters assessed the newborn before taking the child to the hospital for evaluation.

Miller Township (IN) Property Tax Increases to Fund Fire Apparatus Purchases

 
 

The Miller Township Board voted 2-0 on Monday to adopt a new Cumulative Fire Fund tax which will be collected starting in 2020. Board members Carl Andry and Bob Starks voted for the tax, but Randy Bentle was absent due to illness.

Sections of Miller Township are served by Miller-York Volunteer Fire Department and Bright Fire & EMS. Little said she was approached by Bright Fire & EMS captain and board president Kendal Eberhart about the department’s vehicle needs in the near future.
