DeKalb (GA) Begins $5M Construction for Fire Station

DeKalb County has started a $5-million project to replace a fire station built 76 years ago, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The two-story, 15,000-square foot building will include new design layouts to better protect firefighters’ health.

The current fire station was built in 1945 and cost $13,000 to build. The station lacks space for modern fire trucks and doesn’t include facilities for women.

The new fire station is the first of several the county will build using Special Purpose Local Optional Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds.
