New Alameda County (CA) Fire Station Christened

It may have taken close to a decade to make it happen, but the unincorporated Alameda County community of Cherryland now has a new fire station. The 11,860-square-foot Fire Station 23 was officially unveiled Saturday at 19745 Meekland Ave., less than two blocks from the old Grove Way station that dates back to the late 1930s or early 1940s.

The two-story fire station, operated by the Alameda County Fire Department, currently houses a single fire truck equipped with water, hose and emergency medical equipment, but it has a garage that can accommodate up to two firefighting and emergency response vehicles. The station also has individual sleeping rooms for the three crew members on duty at a time; a community meeting room; an exercise room; a full-size kitchen; and offices for fire crews.

Drone Aids Exeter (NH) Fire Department

A Phantom Three drone has the ability to fly at a maximum of 19,685 feet in the air and capture moments only attainable by an aerial device. The Exeter Fire Department uses the drone to get an advantageous view of reported incidents and for documentation of training sessions, Fire Chief Brian Comeau said.

Just last week the Fire Department used to drone to survey the water reservoir because of a reported oil spill. The drone helped determine the film-like layer over the water was only organic material, such as pollen, sitting on the water’s surface.

Last summer, the Fire Department used the drone to survey the severity of the drought and its impact on the Exeter River.

Edmond (OK) Fire Department Releases Video from 4.2 Earthquake

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake rattled the metro Wednesday night. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Edmond around 9:56 p.m. Originally, the earthquake was measured to be a 4.4; however, it was later downgraded to 4.2. Many people around the metro reported feeling the ground shake.

Chalk Bluff VFD (TX) Asks for Donations to Keep Fire Apparatus

The Chalk Bluff Volunteer Fire Department is collecting funds to help them save their fire truck in Elm Mott. In 2004, they bought a new pumper truck to replace the existing one that was more than 25 years old, according to CBVF.

According to the department, it fell behind on payments on the truck and have not been able to catch up. Therefore, the holder of the note will take possession of the pumper truck unless the department can raise those funds.

The fire department set up a GoFundMe page to help them keep the truck.
