Donation will help county buy defibrillators for backcountry fire stations

The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation has donated $44,500 to the county government to purchase automatic external defibrillators that could provide life saving emergency treatment. The donation will allow the county to buy 25 AEDs that will be put in fire stations in rural communities.
The donation will allow the county to buy 25 AEDs that will be put in fire stations in rural communities. The devices provide an electrical shock that can restart an irregular heartbeat. They are commonly found in schools and many businesses, but in rural areas the potentially lifesaving gear is sometimes too far away to help people in distress.

Camden County adds new fire engine to fleet after equipment problems

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga.- A new $255,000 fire engine has been put into service in Camden County, the fire rescue department tells First Coast News. The new engine, a 2016 Freightliner Rescue Pumper, will be housed in Waverly at Station 17.

The funding for this new engine was approved before the First Coast News investigation aired. However, since it aired, the county commission approved another new piece of firefighting equipment, a 4-door pumper truck, which will be ready in 2018.

“We are very excited about this new engine,” Crews said in a statement.

“This vehicle replaces an older, more costly to maintain engine that has served its purpose and will now fall into a back-up position with much less use.”

Fire fire station to honor Charleston 9

On the heels of the tenth anniversary of the Sofa Super Store fire, the Charleston fire department is a step closer to building a new station next to the memorial for the nine firefighters who died in the blaze. The station will tie into the memorial for the fallen firefighters.

Plans to build a new station next to the memorial go back to December 2014. It was part of a 20-year plan to renovate and build new police and fire stations.

Tippett hopes the new station will help provide better service to the community while honoring the Charleston Nine.

"The presence of the station will probably be a larger symbol," he said. "It will become a commanding visual when you're driving up and down Savannah Highway and project to the community that we're there."
