West Grey Receives Its 'Nearly New' Aerial Truck

WEST GREY - West Grey Fire Services once again have a full complement of fire apparatus with the recent acquisition of a nearly new aerial fire truck.

The replacement vehicle is demonstration model and used in a number of trade shows over the past two years. Yet it comes with full warranties.

It has an 80-foot ladder which is 25 feet longer the original truck. It comes fully equipped with ground ladders, pike poles, backboard, plenty of shelving and pull out trays as well as a 6,000 watt hydraulic generator which operates off the vehicle's power takeoff. The ladder and hose can be remotely operated without a firefighter having to climb up the ladder.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll says rescue workers were responding to an emergency when the car turned into their path. The impact of the crash forced both vehicles into the side of a building before they came to rest on the street.

The female driver of the car was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The first responders traveling in the truck were not injured, Miami Fire Rescue said.

LFR Replaces Aged Fire Trucks

Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews are thankful for two brand new front engine trucks. LFR truck seven and truck eight are from 1996 and their upgraded replacements couldn't have come at a better time. The original truck seven broke down on Thursday in route to a call.

Along with fewer mechanical issues, logistics chief Warnock said earlier Thursday that the new trucks will have other features to make their job more efficient.

"Well the one's that are being aged out are 75 foot aerials, these are 105. So, they have a little bit more extension. Some of the houses that are set back in the city we'll be able to reach those a little better," said Warnock.

The new trucks will also have air bags, making it safer for the fire fighters as well.

The new trucks were not in commission today because they still have to be prepped for use. That will include installing radios, and training responders how to use the new equipment.
