Bernalillo County Fire Department Debuts New Fire Engine

Published: ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The Bernalillo County Fire Department debuted its new fire engine Wednesday with a push-in ceremony. That's where firefighters literally push the new truck into the firehouse. The event originated during the time when horse-drawn fire equipment was used, and could not be easily backed into the building by the horses.

The new engine cost more than $550,000 with funding coming from multiple sources.

Two Hospitalized After Morris Twp. Fire Truck Crash

Two Morris Township firefighter were injured after driving a fire truck off the road to avoid a collision, Morristown Police said. At about 6:36 p.m. Tuesday, Morristown Police responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a fire engine on Lafayette Avenue between Morris Avenue and Malcolm Street near Route 287 in town.

Upon arrival, officers saw that Engine 2 of the Morris Township Fire Department’s Collinsville Fire Company had left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Morris Township firefighter Michael Zucker, said he was responding to an emergency call when he was cut off by another vehicle, police said.

Zucker said he was forced to take “evasive action” to avoid a collision  and left the roadway as a result, police said.

Zucker and his passenger, firefighter Brandon McCloskey, were transported to Morristown Medical Center complaining of minor pain, police said.

The fire engine sustained significant damage as a result of the crash, police said.

Adairville VFD Purchases City's Original 1927 Fire Truck

By Brent Holman - For the NDL The Adairville Volunteer Fire Department, by generous support of the community, has brought home a piece of department and city history in the form of the 1927 General Motors Truck Corporation-Yellow Cab Company chemical fire truck that once served the city of Adairville.
Since the fire truck was decommissioned by the city in the 1950s, the truck has had several owners in Kentucky and surrounding states. For year’s stories circulated back to Adairville that the fire truck was still around. Given that it was common for these older vehicles to be scrapped, these sightings were significant. And as we’ll learn this truck was not only meant to survive but eventually find its way back to the town it once protected. One Adairville Firefighter who always wanted to find the old fire truck and bring it back home was Adairville Rural Fire Chief, Teddy Smith.
