As chief spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department, Larry Langford's job is to be on the scene of mayhem. Tuesday morning, he was the mayhem -- the victim of a hit-and-run accident while headed to work in a department SUV. Liberty (IN) Fire Department Receives Grant for Fire Equipment

The Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department has received an equipment grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for a new air compressor valued at more than $26,000, according to a release.
The new compressor is almost double the power of the older, less efficient unit it will replace, which will enable Liberty Township VFD to maximize the capacity of its self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles. With additional oxygen in the SCBA bottles, firefighters can withstand hostile environments longer, giving them more time to bring a fire under control or search for victims.

After Months of Repair, Leyden (MA) Fire Apparatus Back in Service

After a complete pump overhaul, Leyden's 41-year-old Engine 1 is back in service, Selectboard Chairman Jeffrey Neipp says. Engine 1 was out of service for about four months, having arrived to Dan Galvis' automotive repair shop in mid-December with a leaking pump.
Though the Selectboard originally anticipated repairs to cost between $3,500 and $4,000, the cost totaled about $7,500, Neipp said.

Repairs to Engine 1 took longer than expected, with Neipp originally anticipating the truck could be back in service by the end of January.

Margate (NJ) New Fire Apparatus Sees Action Right Away

Just minutes after the Fire Department placed its new Engine 21 into service April 20, it responded to two calls for fires within 15 minutes. The truck's first incident was a vehicle fire at Jefferson and Pacific avenues.
Engine 21 — a 2016 Spartan with a 1,500-gallons-per-minute pump and a 750-gallon tank — arrived on scene and stretched a hose line to extinguish what turned out to be a mulch fire at 9300 Atlantic Ave.

The new engine got its first major call a few days later for a structure fire in the 100 block of South Iroquois Avenue on April 26.
