Bixby (OK) to Break Ground on New Fire Station Headquarters Jan. 17

Bixby announced the groundbreaking of the city’s new fire station headquarters is set for Jan. 17, 2023, fox23.com reported.

The facility will be a critical part of Bixby Fire Department’s EMS service, as established and approved in a previous bond proposition in 2021, the report said.

For more than 40 years, Bixby Fire Station No. 1 has been located downtown, serving as headquarters for the department. But due to community growth, a matching growth in services has become necessary, the report said.

With this new 29,000 square-foot expansion, the fire department will also be able to expand its number of ambulances, according to the report.

The new headquarters will have five drive-thru bays, a four-story training tower, administrative offices and housing to hold up to 14 firefighters, firefighting apparatus, ambulances and equipment, the report said.

An Emergency Operations Center will also be housed in the new facility, along with meeting and training space, the report said.

A launch date for a staffed EMS Service at the new Fire Station No. 1 is planned for January 2024.

Hot Springs (AR) Fire Adds New $2.2M Aerial Ladder Truck and Swiftwater Rescue Boat

The Hot Springs Fire Department made a trip to City Hall Tuesday to show the city board of directors one of its newest purchases, hotsr.com reported.

The board approved the $2.2 million purchase of a 107-foot tiller aerial ladder by Pierce Manufacturing Inc. and accompanying equipment in May 2021, according to the report. The cost was included in the $2.95 million the board authorized the city to borrow for 2021 capital expenses.

The city also bought a new swiftwater rescue boat with excess funds as the purchase was $100,000 less than expected, the report said.

The new truck will replace the 105-foot Simon-Duplex as the department’s front-line aerial device. The 1996 model has become a department favorite and will be moved to reserve status when the new truck is put in service later this year, the report said.
