The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

Fall River (MA) Firefighters Get New Fire Equipment

A $233,623 FEMA grant was awarded and the city made a commitment moving forward to supply its firefighters with National Fire Protection Agency compliant and lifesaving gear.


The Herald News reported on new equipment coming to Fall River (MA) firefighters after the department was awarded a FEMA grant of more than $200K.

The city's match for the $233,623 grant was $23,362, which will reportedly be used for new turnout gear. The gear is the latest in a move to deliver new and standard compliant equipment to the city firefighting staff, according to the report: A new $500K apparatus is expected to be delivered next month, and the city is purchasing dedicated gear washers and dryers.

AZ Woman, 90, Fulfills Dream, Rides Fire Truck

 MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - A 90-year-old Mesa woman said it's never too late to live out a dream. Throughout her life, she's always supported firefighters but she never had a chance to ride in a fire truck.
I mean, who doesn't want to ride in a fire truck? A Mesa (AZ) woman finally got the chance after 90 years to take a ride with firefighters from her local department.

"The sound that was exciting is when they used the siren," Betty Lee said.

NJ Soldier Surprises Son, Arriving Home on Fire Truck

It was a surprise homecoming in Pennsville, New Jersey for 5 year old Jace Allen, as he is reunited with his father.
A soldier returning home to Pennsville, New Jersey, had a special surprise in store for his young son: he arrived home from six months of service away riding a fire truck.

Cops: Woman Steals Idling UT Fire Truck

KEARNS - Police say one person is in custody after a Unified fire truck was stolen Thursday afternoon. The unoccupied truck was later located at 6200 South and 5600 West. A "female suspect" was apprehended a short time after that at 5620 S. Stone Bluff Way, Unified police said.
A woman allegedly stepped into a Unified Fire Authority fire apparatus that was idling outside a convenience store and took it for a short ride on Thursday.

The Deseret News reported on the incident, which happened Thursday afternoon.

The suspect, 38, allegedly stole the truck, drove it about eight blocks and then exited the vehicle to go into a Walgreen's, said Unified police detective Ken Hansen. No firefighters were inside the vehicle, the report said, and the vehicle was not damaged.
