Peoria (IL) Fire Department Rig Damaged in Crash Responding to Another Wreck

A Peoria (IL) Fire Department apparatus on its way to a crash was involved with a collision of its own on Tuesday night, according to a report published by Heart of Illinois ABC.

According to the report, the apparatus in the collision was just a few blocks away from a three-vehicle crash in which one car rolled on its side. The apparatus in the separate wreck sustained rear axle and bumper damage and fire department officials say it will be repaired, according to the report.

The crash with the fire truck, which was occupied by three firefighters, happened at the intersection of Columbia Terrace and North Street and there were no injuries reported, according to the news report.

The initial collision sent four of the seven occupants in the three vehicles to the hospital for treatment, according to the report.

Motorcyclist Injured in Crash with Daytona Beach (FL) Fire Truck

A motorcyclist was rushed to this hospital Wednesday morning in Daytona Beach after running into a fire truck.

Daytona Beach police say the fire truck was making a left turn on Clyde Morris Boulevard near Mayberry Avenue when the motorcycle ran into the front of the truck.

Police say the motorcycle ran a red light and struck the fire truck, which was entering a parking lot, according to Click Orlando.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, and his injuries were serious. Firefighters stopped their vehicle to assist the motorcycle driver.

No firefighters were injured in the crash.

Bolivar (PA) Fire Department Puts Ladder 109 in Service

Ladder 109 was recently put in service by the volunteers of the Bolivar Fire Department, according to a report published by the Times Reporter.

The newly christened apparatus is a 2021 Pierce Ascendant quint with a 107-foot ladder with a price of $1,070,821, according to the report, that noted the price will be funded through a three-year levy

The new apparatus replaces a 1993 75-foot aerial that was sold a neighboring department as well as a 1998 engine that will likely be sold in the fall, according to the report.

How a MA Firefighter Invented an Industry Standard for Fire Apparatus

In 1986, Lynnfield Firefighter Joe Lingel had an idea for a better type of tank to replace the rusting metal tank in one of its pumpers.

So he partnered with Alan Burnham and the two men fabricated a plastic replacement tank to replace the steel tank. The idea was so well received, they decided to make it their life’s work, WCVB reports.

More than 25 years later, United Plastic Fabricating still churns out tanks for fire trucks around the world.
