Barry DeRousse Named New Vice President, General Manager of AEV

American Emergency Vehicles® (AEV), one of the nation’s top selling brands of ambulances*, announces Barry DeRousse as the new Vice President/General Manager.

Prior to joining AEV, DeRousse served as Vice President of Operations at Doonan Specialized Trailers, LLC, as well as Vice President of Operations for Manac Trailers, USA. Barry has over 25 years of operations experience in various industries with a focus on Lean Manufacturing both in high volume/low mix and low volume/high mix product lines.

“The team at AEV is renowned for delivering emergency vehicles with the highest quality American craftsmanship and for providing its dealer network and customers with an exceptional experience,” said Anoop Prakash, President, REV Ambulance Group. “I am excited to have Barry join the organization to lead the company’s next chapter, and build on its strong history, culture and performance.”

DeRousse steps into the role following Randy Hanson’s retirement. During Hanson’s tenure, AEV grew to the #1 Ambulance brand in the U.S. and has repeatedly led the industry in improving safety standards and testing protocols to make Ambulances safer for both EMTs and patients. Hanson will continue to serve in a consulting role, ensuring a seamless leadership transition.

AEV recently consolidated its operations into a new integrated campus, spread over 35 acres in West Jefferson, NC. The investment brings together AEV’s comprehensive manufacturing capabilities, including: five lines of production, an in-house paint shop, complete chassis modifications, remount services, and parts and service centers into one integrated 300,000 square foot campus.

Palatine (IL) to Spend $1.5M on New Apparatus, Tablets

Palatine (IL) village council recently voted to spend about $1.5 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to replace an apparatus as well as 50 in-vehicle computers.

“The 50 Police and Fire in-vehicle rugged computers are now 8 years old, last replaced in 2013,” the village says on its website. “The computers are incurring significant failures and parts are difficult to obtain.

“Additionally, the communication modems for the in-vehicle computers are now 10 years old. The units are no longer supported by the manufacturer and have begun to fail.

“To address the major failure point of the laptop computers, we are recommending to switch from laptops to tablets. This removes the hinge, which has been a major point of failure for the last two laptops installations.”

The in-vehicle technology from Mesa (AZ)-based Ensemble Solutions Group will cost $243,695.68.

The new apparatus, a 2022 aerial platform from MacQueen Emergency Group of Aurora (IL), is not to exceed $1,278,000. It will replace T-371, a 2008 Pierce Quint with 87,000 miles.

“It typically spends most of its life idling at fire scenes, so industry standard is to use engine hours with a multiplier to simulate actual driving in an urban area,” the village says. “Thus, the truck has an equivalent of 271,320 miles on it. The use of ARPA funds under the revenue replacement criteria will allow us to maintain our scheduled purchase.”

The total cost for the replacements is $1,521,695.68.
