Perry (IA) Fire Department Gets Federal Grant for New Pumper Truck

The Perry Fire Department received a federal grant and is one step closer to replacing one of its fire trucks, RaccoonValleyRadio.com reported

An Assistance To Firefighters federal grant will help replace the department’s 1956 Ward Lafrance pumper truck. A fire official said in order to receive the federal grant the city had to approve a five percent matching grant, the report said. The grant was for $477,000 plus additional $23,800 from the matching grant, the report said.

A fire official said the Lafrance is still certified but finding replacement parts for a 66-year-old vehicle would be difficult and expensive, the report said.

The fire official said the old truck would continue to be featured in parades and funerals, according to the report.

Early Signs Point to This Year's Flu Season Being the Worst One in Years

A weekly report released Friday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention adds numbers to previous predictions of a troubling flu season. The number of hospitalizations reported by Oct. 29 has surpassed every recent year during the same week going back as far as the 2010-2011 season. While not a direct case count, the number of people hospitalized with a virus such as influenza or COVID-19 reflects the health care burden of a disease and shows how many people are being harmed.
