A process 25 years in the making, Madelia Fire Department decommissioned its century-old fire station and city hall Sunday, and community members gathered to see them off, KEYC.com reported.

After a few words from the Madelia fire chief, active and retired department members paraded down the road to their shiny new facility, the report said.

Upon arriving at the new facility, the building was given a blessing and the department gathered to push the trucks into their new home for the first time.

The old hall, located in the middle of downtown Madelia, was built in 1916. The building will be renovated into commercial space for a future business, adding a new chapter to its long history, the report said.

Troy (OH) Fire Department Celebrates New Station 11

The Troy Fire Department invited the public to its new fire station Sunday, Dayton247now.com reported. The open house allowed the public to tour the new facility at 110 East Canal Street.

Fire Station 11’s location will help in the department’s future growth, a fire official said. The previous location couldn’t see any expansion, and with the new facility the department can double-stack its equipment depending on the needs of the community, the report said.

The new facility tries to blend in with other historic structures that make up the historic look in the city of Troy. A fire official said the department didn’t want to make the station look like a crisp, new-age fire station, but wanted to make the station look like a part of the community, the report said.

The facility has more added space, and comforts to help firefighters after responding to emergency calls. There’s also a new training room that will help provide training to the community or education groups, according to the report.
