Mt. Pleasant (IA) Fire Department Gets New $1.8M Truck

The Mt. Pleasant City Council approved the purchase of a new 100 foot Midmount Ascendant aerial for the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department to replace the current 1990 aerial used by the department, southeastiowaunion.com reported.

According to the proposal presented to the City Council, the purchase price for this new truck is $1,810,000, the report said.

The new truck will seat five firefighters, carry 300 gallons of water, and is capable of pumping 2,000 gallons of water. The department’s current truck does not have a water tank.

The fire department is hopeful to take delivery of the new truck in 16 to 18 months.

VIDEO: Building fire in New York took 55 firefighters hours to battle

A two-alarm fire has destroyed a building on Leavenworth Street just behind the Wendy’s on Lake Avenue. Crews were called to the scene around 12:30 a.m. and worked for hours putting out the flames. They are still cleaning up debris. Rochester firefighters say they got the call for a report of heavy smoke and flames coming from a one-story commercial building.

Firefighters around Massachusetts honor veteran battling ALS with helmet tribute

VIDEO: Dale Melanson wasn't ready to leave the Plymouth Fire Department when a devastating diagnosis of ALS forced him to retire earlier this year. But, part of him did stay - his helmet. Now, it's traveling from department to department across Massachusetts. This week, Braintree firefighters delivered it to the Quincy Fire Department where it rode in the fire truck, even responding to calls.

VIDEO: 2 drivers survive wild crash that sent big rig dangling off Texas overpass

A driver is in critical condition after a crash between an 18-wheeler and a box truck left one of the vehicles dangling over the Grand Parkway in Montgomery County on Monday morning. The latter vehicle, the box truck, ended up on the lanes below. Texas DPS said they responded to the crash at about 8:06 a.

More veterans are joining the ranks at a Florida fire department
