Spokane firefighters extinguish blaze in East Central

Spokane firefighters put out a fire in the East Central neighborhood Wednesday night. The blaze broke out in the 3200 block of East Sprague near Axels Pawn Tools & Gold. The Spokane Fire Department says a trailer and an outbuilding were lost in the fire. Avista responded to the scene to de-energize fallen power lines.

Yakima Fire Department #4 awarded 'Local Hero' grant

Yakima Fire Department #4 is going to be getting some new equipment after receiving a grant for being local heroes. Gesa Credit Union (GCU) is rewarding the station nearly $5,000 for new fire saws. "They asked for funds for two of these saws that way they can continue to allow their firefighters to gain access into buildings to provide the best service to our communities as possible," Angie Brotherton, AVP of community relations and impact at GCU, said.

Follow Up: Boathouse fire on Clover Island closes boat launch

According to a Kennewick Fire Department press release, two boathouses were destroyed in the fire and two others were damaged. An estimated 50-150 gallons of fuel were spilled into the river during the fire and the Department of Ecology is investigating the spill and coordinating the cleanup. The Clover Island boat launch has been closed until further notice following the fire in the Yacht Club boathouse, according to a press release from the Port of Kennewick.

Snoqualmie Pass: Both directions of I-90 closed for spinouts, crashes

Both directions of Interstate 90 are closed due to multiple crashes and spinouts that happened Thursday morning. The westbound closure is near Ellensburg. The eastbound closure was moved from North Bend to near Stampede Pass exit 62 while crews clear an earlier crash near Easton. There are no services at the new closure point east of the Snoqualmie Summit.

City Breaks Ground on $12M Fire Station Near Denton (TX) Airport

The city broke ground Tuesday on its newest fire station, Station 9, located at the Denton Enterprise Airport, DentonRC.com reported. The approximately $12 million project will allow the Denton Fire Department to better serve the airport and other areas west of Interstate 35.

When it came to selecting a location for the next station, the fire department followed the data. It found the existing western stations — Stations 3, 5 and 7 — couldn’t respond to the airport fast enough, the report said.

The goal is to have the fire station completed by March 2024.
