‘Giving people tools to save their life’: Vending machine in King County provides free Narcan, fentanyl test strips

In an ongoing effort to combat drug overdoses across the county, King County Public Health and Peer Seattle have teamed up and are providing people in Capitol Hill with access to a vending machine that provides Fentanyl testing strips and Narcan. The vending machine also supplies safe sex kits. The vending machine has been at Peer Seattle for a few months, and director Christopher Archiopoli said people have been using it daily.

Grotto, Baring residents warned of dangerous winter ahead due to wildfire-damaged lands

After an unseasonably warm October, the Cascades are finally getting their first taste of precipitation. Along the Skykomish River on Highway 2, there is now an increased risk of debris flow and landslides. Further up the road, the Stevens Pass Ski Area received a dusting of snow. Even with all this wet weather, the Bolt Creek Fire continues to burn.

‘Yes, you can do that’: Women learn the ropes of fire service at event in Federal Way

Dozens of women turned out for a weekend of workouts, training and camaraderie last weekend at a Women in Firefighting/EMS event in Federal Way. Hosted by South King Fire & Rescue at Station 68, just up the street from Lakota Middle School, the women received hands-on lessons from instructors from more than dozen King County agencies and learned what to expect from a career in the fire service.

Uwe Hirsch Named Vice President Finance STIHL Inc.

Industry veteran brings fiscal and controlling expertise

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Uwe Hirsch has been named Vice President Finance of STIHL Inc. and assumes his position on November 7, 2022. Hirsch will plan, direct and control the company’s overall financial plans, policies and activities, including its accounting and treasury practices.

Hirsch will also provide support in the business transformation of the company and leadership of the IT operations and system implementations. STIHL Inc. employs more than 3,000 people in the United States, supplying the majority of STIHL products for the U.S. market as well as components and products for more than 80 markets worldwide.

Hirsch joins STIHL Inc. after a successful career with the Bosch Group, where he most recently served as global vice president of finance, controlling and purchasing for Bosch Automotive Service Solutions in the Automotive Aftermarket division. Prior to that, he served as vice president of finance at Bosch Automotive Service Solutions.

Poway (CA) Votes to Buy Two New Fire Engines

The Poway City Council has agreed to buy two new fire engines at a total cost of $1.9 million, SanDiegoUnionTribune.com reported.

The council approved the purchase at the October 18 meeting, the report said.

The two fire engines will be placed into frontline service at Fire Stations Nos. 2 and 3. The engines will be delivered sometime in 2025, according to a staff report.

The purchase of the fire engines prior to November 1 avoids a cost increase of $119,999, according to a staff report.
