Attacks against Seattle firefighters lead to new approaches when handling calls

Firefighters who face a disturbing number of physical and verbal assaults while on the job are now getting help from a coalition of city leaders. The Seattle Fire Department is working with the Seattle City Attorney’s Office and the Seattle Police Department to track the incidents and come up with safer ways to respond to calls.

Tacoma firefighters create documentary to spotlight mental health crisis

Firefighters are often portrayed as the heroes. They battle the flames, they rescue victims of crashes, they go into the danger, not away. But just as often, they're heavily impacted by the job. Tacoma Fire Chief Tory Green attributes some of the stresses to an increase in call volume in recent years.

Crews recount rescue of two brothers whose plane crashed into trees in Skagit Valley

A rescue mission by Snohomish County Search and Rescue returns two brothers in their 70s to safety on Monday. At about 9:30 a.m. Monday, both men were found in the Lake Cavanaugh area. According to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, their plane crashed into some trees Sunday night and the two men were able to climb down to safety.

Campers cause third fire in Gifford Pinchot National Forest; rain slows down growth

An unattended campfire off the Siouxon Trail has set off a third large wildfire currently burning in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Officials hope the bursts of rain and cooler weather on Wednesday and Thursday will help slow the spread of the Siouxon, Kalama and Goat Rocks fires but expect it won’t be enough to extinguish them.
