Texas firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2013 remembered in coloring book

VIDEO: May 31, 2013, was a day of heartbreak for the Bayou City. "It's something that's near and dear to all of us firefighters. It's the worst day we ever had in the Houston Fire Department," said Chris Hill, HFD District Chief in charge of cadet training. A total of five firefighters died while battling a blaze at the Southwest Inn at 6855 Southwest Freeway.

Woman killed in Spokane Valley house fire

VIDEO: One woman died from a house fire in Spokane Valley, the Spokane Valley Fire Department said. Smoke was coming out of the back of the garage toward the back of the home near South Clinton Road and East 32nd Street. The woman was inside and was removed from the home by crews with injuries. Crews performed CPR on the individual, who was later taken to the hospital.

Cow Canyon Fire near Wenas explodes in size, crews fear high winds

The Cow Canyon Fire has erupted near Wenas and has forced evacuations. The fire was first reported Wednesday afternoon about 1 mile Northeast of Wenas. Since first being assessed at 50 acres it quickly exploded to 1,500 acres burned. A level 3 GO NOW evacuation order is in place for the area 1.5 miles in radius from the intersection of Malloy Road and North Wenas Road.

Williams Lake Fire 10% contained, Level 2 and Level 3 evacuations remain

As of Thursday at 8:30 a.m., the Williams Lake Fire is 10% contained, according to Spokane County Fire District 3. The district also said that due to smoke obscuring visibility over the fire, the original report of 3,200 acres was an overestimate. At this time, the current estimate is at 1,000+ acres.
