They have primarily focused on becoming familiar with firefighting gear and equipment in the first few weeks and have now progressed to working with live flames. Firefighters with the Airway Heights Fire Department and Spokane County Fire District 10 are investigating a deadly house fire that left one person and one cat dead. The fire reportedly occurred at a home on West Whitetip Avenue. At this time, the fire is out and crews and investigating what sparked it.

Chelan and Douglas counties could have especially quick access to aircraft for wildfires this season. The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be leasing space at Pangborn Airport to park some of its wildfire aircraft. Chelan Douglas Port Regional Authority Director of Economic Development and Capital Projects Stacie de Mestre says it's the first time the agency has made the airport a base to operate from.

VIDEO: The man accused of intentionally setting a West Central home on fire over the weekend reportedly started the fire while at least five other residents were inside, according to court documents. Nicholes Whitney, 43, was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with six counts of first-degree arson.
