Follow up: Documents say arson suspect set fire to West Central Spokane home while residents were inside

VIDEO: The man accused of intentionally setting a West Central home on fire over the weekend reportedly started the fire while at least five other residents were inside, according to court documents. Nicholes Whitney, 43, was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with six counts of first-degree arson.

Bob Eastman sworn in as South County Fire Chief

Bob Eastman was sworn in as fire chief of South County Fire during the regional fire authority’s board of commissioners meeting Tuesday night. Eastman previously served as assistant chief. He replaces Fire Chief Thad Hovis, who will serve as a transitional consultant until his retirement on July 1. “The board thanks Chief Hovis for his leadership and many years of service to the community,” Board Chair Jim Kenny said.

VIDEO: Three people hospitalized in big Federal Way house fire

Three people are in the hospital after a massive house fire in Federal Way. Video shot by a KIRO 7 photographer shows the house fully engulfed in flames. South King Fire tells KIRO 7 the fire started around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon off 4th Avenue SW and 371st. The conditions of the three people who were hospitalized are not known.

Chelan County appoints Christina Pedersen as new Fire Marshal

Chelan County has hired Christina Pedersen as the new fire marshal, bringing with her over three decades of experience in the fire service. Pedersen, who is set to begin her new role on April 15, joins the county from the Yakima County Fire Marshal's Office, where she served for nine years and rose to the position of deputy fire marshal.

Fire destroys mobile home, smoke visible for miles in North Spokane

VIDEO: A mobile home in Mead was destroyed in a fire Sunday afternoon which sent smoke high into the sky that could be seen miles away in north Spokane. Officials with Spokane County Fire District 9 (SCFD 9) say the cause of the fire is still under investigation, adding that no one was hurt in the fire.
