Kansas: Stolen Jackie Robinson statue found 'dismantled and burned'

PHOTOS: Police in Kansas are searching for a suspect after a bronze statue of Jackie Robinson was vandalized and stolen last week. The dismantled remains of the artwork were found Tuesday morning by the Wichita Fire Department when it responded to a small trash fire. Wichita police said Monday it had located the truck that was believed to be used in the theft of the artwork, but added that detectives and officers were still searching for the people responsible.

Many wonder how the lack of snow will affect eastern Washington's fire season, DNR officials say it's 'too early to tell'

With the lack of snow this year, many may be wondering how this will impact eastern Washington's fire season. Guy Gifford, with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), says that there could be some impact but it's too early to tell. Fire season is impacted by moisture more than anything else. Even though we haven't been getting snow doesn't mean that we have received moisture in the Inland Northwest.

Snoqualmie Fire Department celebrates promotions

During the Jan. 22. Snoqualmie City Council meeting, Snoqualmie Fire Department Lieutenant Robert Lasswell and Fire Chief Mike Bailey were presented with pins for their respective promotions. In his 21 years at the department, Lasswell has served as a firefighter, engine operator, active officer and longtime acting officer when the department experienced vacancies for lieutenant positions.

Follow Up: Why Washington cars could get a little Smokey in 2024

Washington drivers could soon see Smokey the Bear on the road — not behind the wheel, but on a new specialty license plate that lawmakers are currently considering. “Since 1944, Smokey Bear has reminded with his signature catchphrase that, ‘Only you can prevent wildfires,’” State Sen. T'wina Nobles (D-Fircrest) said in a statement.

South County firefighters extinguish truck fire before Edmonds house burns

The South County Fire Department extinguished a truck fire before it fully spread throughout an Edmonds home Monday afternoon. Firefighters say they were sent to the Pine Park neighborhood shortly after getting a 911 call. After arriving, they immediately noticed a truck in the driveway that was fully engulfed in flames.
