As a massive plume of black smoke permeated the sky above Fort Wayne Wednesday, the blaze reminded some of a historic fire that happened in southeast Fort Wayne nearly 27 years ago.
On Aug. 30, 1997, a fire broke out at an abandoned tire warehouse on Bowser Avenue in southeast Fort Wayne. The fire happened less than a mile from Wednesday’s fire at the intersection of Wayne Trace and New Haven Avenue.

A national report indicates Kansas is one of the leading states for arson incidents.
Last year, there were 5,440 arson incident reports made to the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Kansas made up 6% of the nation’s arson reports with 307 cases. Kansas had the fifth most cases of incendiary fires in the U.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Henderson Fire Department traded in fire hoses for sledgehammers this week.
The department kicked off the "extreme makeover" of a former motorhome dealership into a new fire station for the city.
Henderson announced back in the fall that the city purchased the former Camping World property on Boulder Highway near Racetrack Road, intending to convert it into the new Fire Station 81.

Their research has led to nationwide safety changes in the firefighting industry and the recognition of more cancers presumed to be caused on the job.
