A 10-year, $13 million financial plan is on the June 28 ballot for the Fox River & Countryside Fire Rescue District.

If passed, the money would provide debt relief, purchase new vehicles and equipment, and fund a third fire station in St. Charles Township.

The third station, at a cost of $5 million with construction beginning in 2025, could improve response times by three minutes, which would be a boon as the district’s call volume is up 51% over the last 10 years.

Another $5 million of the funds would go toward new vehicles and equipment, as the district currently has no reserve engine. The remaining $3 million would be used to pay off the debt from the construction of the other two stations.

The $13 million equates to $37.84 of additional property taxes for every $100,000 of assessed property value, which would remain in place for 10 years.

A 22-year Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighter and EMT will take the helm as the department's next chief starting July 1. Assistant Chief Jay Christian has been selected by the CKFR board of commissioners as the fire district's chief, replacing retiring Chief John Oliver, according to a press release.

A fire truck washed away Monday with firefighters still on it, as heavy rainfall surged through the streets of Guangdong province in southern China.

Video of the incident, posted by Chinese state media, shows the apparatus being overcome by flood waters that then push it down a street.

Thankfully, firefighters escaped without injury.

There was anger Monday in Harare after local government minister July Moyo was accused of circumventing the public tendering system to order councils to divert devolution funds to pay for fire engines from a Belarusian company owned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s associate, Alyaksandr Zingman, reports zimlive.com. The arrangement could cost the councils more than $32 million.

The anger stems from the apparatus being overpriced at $464,296 each, the report says.

In a Monday letter, Moyo’s local government ministry said each rural local authority would get an engine while urban local authorities would get two and metropolitan local authorities would get three each, according to the report. The order will be more than $32 million for around 70 engines.

The purchase funds will be taken from the 2022 devolution allocations and will be done over a period of 12 months starting in March 2022, government officials say.

The Swedish truck manufacturer has started series production of electric chassis in 2019 and already provides two products in the form of the Volvo FL Electric, on which Rosenbauer has already implemented an equipment truck for logistics, and the Volvo FE Electric, which is used for the AT electric. Rosenbauer is the first body manufacturer to implement fully electric firefighting vehicles on these chassis and in the future will also offer the AT electric on other series chassis, as soon as they become available.

No compromises, no trade-offs in the usual AT qualities – that was the development approach for the AT electric. The vehicle is based on the same body technology and offers the same range of functions and the familiar operating environment as a “classic” AT. Proven body elements such as the integrated twin cab with revolving steps or the Rosenbauer COMFORT mounting system can be found 1:1 in the AT electric. Only the steps in the area of equipment compartments 1 and 2 are not designed as flaps but can be extended mechanically because the two battery packs are located behind them.
