In reaching out to kids, Massachusetts fire chief's cable show wins national honor

VIDEO: What started as a way to connect with kids during the pandemic has evolved into a national award-winning cable access show. "Storytime with Chief Cassidy," starring Fire Chief Michael Cassidy and produced by Holliston Cable Access and station manager Bruce Gilfoy, was recently honored with an "Award of Excellence," at the 28th Annual Communicator Awards, presented by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts.

Rhode Island launches nation’s first COVID test-to-treat site

Gov. Dan McKee had a special guest at his COVID-19 briefing Thursday morning. White House COVID-19 Coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha joined McKee virtually to announce the nation’s first federally backed test-to-treat site is opening at the Clínica Esparanza/Hope Clinic in Providence. The new site comes as the White House announced more steps Thursday to make the antiviral treatment Paxlovid more accessible across the United States.

VIDEO: Grain silo catches fire in Prosser

A grain silo has caught fire near the intersection of Stacey Avenue and 7th Street. Witnesses say the fire has spread to the next door feed and supply store, M & E Seed and Grain. One injury was reported, an employee who was inside and made the original 911 call, reporting an explosion. He was taken to the hospital.

New Life Jacket Loaner Station opens at Spokane River Centennial Trail

Don't have a life jacket for this summer? You can now borrow one from the Spokane River Centennial Trail. The new life jacket loaner board, which was started by a Spokane Boy Scout, was completed on May 22. Walker Jones, a Boy Scout from Troop 439, learned of the need for life jackets along to Spokane River, to increase safety for kids participating in water sports such as boating, swimming, paddle boarding, and other water sports.

Man killed in northwest Spokane house fire

Chief Brian Schaeffer said neighbors called in the fire and when fire crews arrived, there were flames as high as 50 feet shooting from the home. They found the man dead just inside the front door. Crews searched the rest of the home and found no one else inside.
