4-year-old dies after being pulled from Spokane River

Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said late Tuesday that a 4-year-old child has died at the hospital after being pulled from the Spokane River near the Downriver Golf Course. It happened just before 7:30 p.m. Witnesses say the boy's family was on the course and had stopped near the river when they turned their backs for a moment and the boy was gone.

Group donates water to Yakima firefighters after recent wildfires

It’s been a busy month for crews battling fires all across the Yakima Valley. Today, members of the American Legion post 36, showing their appreciation by providing Fire Station 91 with a pallet of water. Volunteers donating money to help restock, given their recent workload. Members said it's a way to remind them that their hard work does not go unnoticed.

Pullman firefighters deployed to fight wildfire in Oregon

From British Columbia to Eastern Washington, Idaho and into Montana, local agencies are donating their resources to help fight those wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. These are images of the Ana Fire currently burning in south central Oregon. So far, 6,000 acres have burned and it’s 20-percent contained.

Yakima: Memorial is re-dedicated to 4 fallen 30 Mile Fire firefighters

16 years ago, four firefighters lost their lives battling the 30 Mile Fire in Okanogan County. Today, their lives will be honored at the West Valley Fire Department. Reporter Gilbert Magallon learned that the four firefighters who lost their lives in the 30 Mile Fire were all from our region. There was 30-year-old Tom Craven of Ellensburg, 21-year-old Devin Weaver of Yakima, 18-year-old Karen Fitzpatrick of Yakima, and 19-year-old Jessica Johnson, also from Yakima and a member of the West Valley Fire Department.

Upper Valley firefighters get quick grip on Chumstick wildfire

Upper Valley firefighters quickly encircled a brushfire that broke out Monday evening and led to low-level evacuation notices. The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. along the east side of Chumstick Highway, opposite Sunitsch Canyon. Firefighters from Chelan County Fire District No. 3 and 6 tackled the blaze, while Chelan County sheriff’s deputies issued Level 1 evacuation notices (be prepared, no imminent threat) to homes in a one-mile radius, from Chumstick Highway milepost 3 to milepost 6.
