Man charged after allegedly breaking into Hawaii fire station while firefighters were inside asleep

A 27-year-old was charged after allegedly breaking into a Kaimuki fire station, where law enforcement sources say he was discovered naked in a bathroom. The suspect allegedly broke in through a ground floor bathroom window while firefighters were inside asleep. Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, a firefighter reported being woken up by a man who had flipped on the lights inside the dorm at Fire Station No.

Pittsburgh firefighters no longer required to live in city, under legal settlement with union

The city of Pittsburgh and the firefighters' union have agreed firefighters no longer must live within the city limits, reaching a negotiated end to an ongoing legal battle. "This is a great thing for not only the city, the citizens, but the firefighters who serve here," Ralph Sicuro, president, Pittsburgh Firefighters Union Local #1, told Pittsburgh's Action News 4.

Fire districts in western Washington train for another 'tough, difficult' wildfire season

More and more disastrous wildfires have been sparking up in western Washington in the last several seasons. Fire districts across the Puget Sound are preparing to battle the fires in the dry, hot temperatures. Monday started a week-long Wildland Urban Interface training session, hosted by Graham Fire & Rescue.

But his rural Pierce County home, where he had lived for nearly 30 years, was destroyed by a wildfire in 2020.

With user-controlled 360-degree full-room views, they’ll experience actual house fires in virtual reality, feeling as if they are in the rooms. They’ll see flashover in the unsprinklered room in real time and watch a sprinkler automatically control the blaze in another. 

This new resource lets you share your knowledge with convincing evidence of the need to protect new housing stock with sprinklers. It can be watched with 3D glasses/headset for an immersive experience or in 2D on HFSC’s website.
