Firefighters are in the middle of a sleep study being conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Health and Human Performance Department. The goal of the study is to improve firefighter health.
Smart watches worn by Superior crew members 24 hours a day, seven days a week are gathering data about their heart rate, blood pressure and sleep patterns at home and on the job.

The Junction City Fire Department is hoping to stop bullying starting with schools in Boyle County.
Firefighters said after incidents in their own community and now the tragedy in Texas, the department is hoping to change lives, one student at a time.
It is called “Firefighters Against Bullies.” The program was started in Pennsylvania by a group of firefighters hoping to draw awareness to schools and to build an anti-bullying program.

It was the single biggest loss of life in the history of the Houston Fire Department.
Nine years ago, the Southwest Inn fire ultimately claimed the lives of five firefighters. The four firefighters who died on the scene were Robert Bebee, Robert Garner, Mathew Renaud, and Anne Sullivan.
In March 2017, Captain Bill Dowling, who lost both of his legs in the fire, died of complications from the injuries sustained in the line of duty.

A house fire in Pierce County forced one person out of their home on Wednesday morning.
Around 3:30 a.m., the fire began burning in the 200 block of North G Street in Tacoma. Fire crews were concerned about the power lines on the backside of the property, but the fire was put out and nobody was hurt.

A 56-year-old Idaho woman will serve two and a half years in federal prison after federal prosecutors said she cyberstalked her ex-boyfriend in Spokane, Washington.
Kimberly Ann Brischle of Post Falls also broke into the man’s home and set a fire inside a closet in April 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Eastern Washington said in a news release.
