Fire erupts at Bremerton scrap metal yard

PHOTOS: Firefighters have put out a fire at a Bremerton scrap metal yard, where smoke was seen billowing in the air. South Kitsap Fire & Rescue first tweeted about the fire at Navy City Metals, 3587 W. Belfair Valley Road, at 12:25 p.m. Thursday. Crews tweeted just before 3:30 p.m. that the fire was out, but they were remaining on the scene to mop up any hot spots.

Camas city officials facing ‘critical’ fire department needs

Camas city officials will soon grapple with how to fund several “critical needs” in its fire and public works departments. Camas interim city administrator Jeff Swanson presented the staffing and facility needs to Camas City Council members last week during a council planning session on Friday, April 29.

Meet Tommy, Baltimore’s (MD) First Diesel Fire Boat Returns Home

It’s taken three years, but Tommy has arrived at his new home!

Indeed. A piece of Baltimore firefighting history is now on full display at the Fire Museum of Maryland in Lutherville.

Tommy—the city’s first diesel fire boat, named in honor of former Baltimore mayor Thomas D’alesandro Jr.—was commissioned in 1956 and stayed in service until 2015. A portion of it was preserved, and volunteers have been working to restore it.

“It’s a perfect fit,” a Facebook post reads. “The fireboat Tommy has now been officially installed in the front of our Museum! Visitors can now come and take a look at the exterior. Our next step is restoration, which will take quite some time. And fundraising is always an issue. We welcome donations here.”
