Harrisonburg (VA) Holds Touch-A-Truck Event

Harrisonburg Saturday held its annual Touch-A-Truck event at the Chick-fil-A at 1691 E. Market St.

From 9 a.m. to noon, residents were able to come out and explore up close first responder apparatus.

The event benefited The Gus Bus Reading Program, which aims to bring free academic enrichment to children throughout Harrisonburg and the counties of Page and Shenandoah. “We take our mobile-classroom vehicles to neighborhoods where families might have financial and/or transportation barriers to programs like ours—those that inspire creativity, promote social-emotional growth, and improve educational achievement,” the website reads.

Video Lesson: Should I Pass This Responding Fire Truck?

An SUV and a Tulsa (OK) fire truck responding to an emergency had a close call Saturday.

As the apparatus approached an intersection and planned a U-turn, the SUV driver thought it was safe to pass on the left, until it became clear the fire truck was turning. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The Tulsa Fire Department used the video as a public service announcement on social media about the dangers of passing responding fire apparatus.

27 different agencies respond to large fire at New Hampshire resort

VIDEO: Emergency crews from 27 different agencies responded to a large fire at the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort Saturday afternoon. Photos and videos shared by people in the area showed smoke and flames coming out of rooms on the second and third floors. The Chief of the North Conway Fire Department says there were four injuries, two people at the resort and two firefighters.

'It's absolutely a miracle': First responders give update about EF-3 tornado damage in Kansas

Everywhere you go just south of the Andover Road and US Highway 400 intersection in Andover you see the same thing. Houses destroyed and debris everywhere. That is what is left in wake of a EF-3 tornado that hit the southeastern part of the city Friday night, leaving a swath of destruction. During a news conference Saturday at 4:30, just under 24 hours since the twister first touched down, first responders had several updates on the status of the city.
