The vacant space where the Blanchard Township offices and fire station burnt down last year is not so vacant.
Indeed. Township officials have been working hard to replace the lost building, reports thecourier.com.
Officials estimate that the new $1 million building will have its concrete work completed in September, be up and weather-tight by the end of November, and completed by year’s end.
For a bit, Blanchard Township used a recently vacated Liberty Township station on County Road 140, according to the report. Firefighters in Mount Cory, Rawson, Liberty Township, and McComb have aided in responding to fires.
The township also has to replace two trucks and other various equipment and supplies; it’s temporarily keeping some fire trucks in a storage building in the township, the report says. It was recently awarded a grant to help with replacing lost items.
Bockrath & Associates (Ottawa) designed the new facility, which, at 7,800 square feet, will be about 60% larger than the former station, the report says. It’ll have four fire truck bays and four bays for township snow plows and other such equipment.
