Whitewater Center in Tennessee used for 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics destroyed in fire

VIDEO/PHOTOS: An early morning fire destroyed the Ocoee Whitewater Center Tuesday. The venue served as the host site for paddling events, such as kayaking and canoeing, during the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. Years later, it remained a popular spot for locals and tourists with the waters of the Ocoee River surging just steps beyond the center's back doors, with sweeping views from the balcony.

Texas: Mechanical engineering students design device for fire department

VIDEO: A group from one of West Texas A&M University's mechanical engineering classes Monday unveiled a device designed and built for the Randall County Fire Department as their spring project. Developed as a project over the 16-week class, the device is designed to make rolling up a fire hose after a fire become less time and manpower consuming.

FDNY puts up first all-women rescue paramedic team in national EMS competition in Indiana

The FDNY is about to make “herstory” — and they may get a trophy out of it. For the first time, the department is sending an all-women rescue paramedic team to test its life-saving skills against other first responders in a national competition, the FDNY said. The four life-savers fly to Indiana to compete in the 2022 Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS) Conference and Expo, where they will run through three realistic, high-pressure scenarios to see if they can assess injuries and provide care quickly and accurately.

Alaska firefighter, athlete overcomes challenges to win Ski Ultramarathon

Jaclyn Arndt is 31 years old and works for the Homer Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT. But her new passion is ultra-marathon racing. Earlier this month, she became the first female skier to finish the Iditarod Trail Invitational (or ITI), a 350-mile course from Knik Lake to McGrath. It’s pretty impressive considering she just started marathon racing within the last two years.

COVID-19 data reporting is becoming less frequent, making trends harder to track
