Wexford (PA) Volunteer Fire Company Orders New Rescue Truck

The Wexford Volunteer Fire Company signed a contract for a new rescue truck with Seagrave Fire Apparatus, LLC and their local sales rep, Flashover Fire Apparatus and Equipment Company.

The new truck has a 560-day build time and delivery is expected for late 2023. This truck will replace our current rescue, which was purchased in 1994.

The Rescue is the backbone of our fleet. It responds to all motor vehicle accidents and other rescue situations. It also responds as a support vehicle to structure fires and other emergencies. The new rescue will give us additional rescue capabilities such as water emergencies, and structural collapse. It will carry a full complement of ground ladders and structural firefighting equipment in addition to the rescue equipment.

We would like to thank the Township of Pine for their financial support of this project.

Vancouver Fire Marshal: Calls to homeless camps are increasing

Vancouver fire crews have responded to a rash of calls at the former Joe’s Crab Shack along the Columbia River — but most of the recent fires are actually coming from an old tunnel under the nearby pier. Officials say the structure poses safety risks to those accessing it, including firefighters. Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said transient fires are tying up more of the city’s fire resources and can be particularly challenging to fight.

Bonnyville (Canada) Regional Fire Authority to Replace Five Trucks for C$3M

Council recently approved the Bonnyville (Alberta, Canada) Regional Fire Authority’s (BRFA) request to replace five fire trucks—two pumpers and three tankers—in the ensuing three years at a projected cost of just under C$3 million, reports lakelandconnect.net.

The request, totaling C$2,934,037, was submitted under the department’s proposed 15-year interval as follows, the report notes:

1) 2007 Pumper 20 (Goodridge) – replacement due in 2022; would arrive in 2023
2) 2007 Pumper 91 (Cold Lake South) – replacement due in 2023, needs a 2022 ordering
3) 2007 Tanker 21 (Goodridge) – replacement due in 2023, needs a 2022 ordering
4) 2010 Tanker 31 (Glendon) – replacement due in 2024, needs a 2023 ordering
5) 2009 Tanker 41 (Iron River) – replacement due in 2024, needs a 2023 ordering

Officials say ordering multiple apparatus in the same purchase can result in 1-2% savings, while ordering multiple identical apparatus in the same purchase can yield 2-3% savings.

BRFA experienced two pump failures in 2021—an MD truck and a Bonnyville truck—during a test, the report says.
