VIDEO: The Los Angeles Fire Department had a big day over the weekend after becoming the first fire department in the country to have an electric fire engine. The truck was unveiled Saturday morning outside the LAFD historical museum in Hollywood. It's been assigned to Station 82, and was custom-made by a company in Austria that builds firefighting tools and equipment.

After a generous donation from Heath Consultants of Houston, Texas, the Sterling Heights Fire Department becomes the first in Michigan to utilize a new remote methane leak detector. This device will allow first responders to quickly scan common venting points within a building from a safe distance to determine if methane gas is present.

After two recent fires involving arborvitae trees, the Kennewick Fire Department asks that the community keep their arborvitae trees clean, cut, trimmed and away from buildings. "This whole row of trees behind me could catch fire quickly and spread even quicker," said KFD Chief Chad Michael. Michael calls the arborvitae tree one of the "most flammable vegetations.

Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) units responded Tuesday evening to a report of a strong sulfur smell on North University Road. According to a statement from the SVFD, firefighters responded to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the 2700 block of N. University in Spokane Valley after a driver passing by detected the odor and called firefighters.
