New mutant omicron variant XE could be most transmissible yet, WHO says

Just days after the BA.2 strain of coronavirus achieved world dominance, international health officials are already turning their attention to a new, mutant variant believed to be even more transmissible – XE. XE is a combination of the first form of omicron to spread across the globe, BA.1, and so-called “stealth omicron,” the subvariant BA.

Vancouver Fire Department shapes its first all-female crew

Since being established more than 150 years ago, the Vancouver Fire Department formed its first all-female crew. FOX 12 spoke with VFD captain Heidi Parr, who said the creation of this team happened on its own. “It kind of happened organically,” Parr said. “I was working with another woman last year and at the end of the year our third was leaving to go to another station.

Firefighters respond to ‘large’ fire at Skamania County mill

Firefighters responded to a large structure fire in Skamania County Friday night. Skamania County Fire District 1 said around 11 p.m. Friday, it responded with mutual aid partners to a fire at the Home Valley mill. It said the incident was a “large structure fire.” It said there was one building lost and the fire did not spread to any others on the property.

Former Joe's Crab Shack building in Vancouver damaged by fire

The building that formerly housed Joe's Crab Shack in Vancouver was damaged in a fire on Monday morning. No injuries were reported. The waterfront restaurant to the east of the Interstate Bridge was a Vancouver mainstay until it closed permanently in 2020 due to challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to The Columbian.

Man dies in fire, explosion in northwest Clark County

The fire marshal has now taken over the investigation into a fatal fire on Friday afternoon in northwest Clark County. Officials with Fire District 10 said they were first dispatched to a “large explosion” at 2:14 p.m. Friday in the 2600 block of Northeast Horton Drive. “We were dispatched to a large structure fire,” Fire District 10 captain Galen Sarkinen said.
