VIDEO: West Licking Fire District invested more than $400,000 in new heart monitors.
It is the only fire department in the state, and one of few in the country, to have this technology. District leaders say it will help save more lives.
The new Lifepak 35 made by Stryker has a more durable touchscreen that is waterproof, and it takes 15 different pictures of the heart at a time instead of 12, like the old machines.

Researchers at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health will use air quality sensors, temperature measurements and a national database of 911 emergency medical services calls to evaluate the links between environmental exposures, such as air pollution and temperature, and EMS transports for health emergencies.

Spokane Valley firefighters and other emergency responders successfully airlifted an injured mountain biker over the weekend.
According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched Saturday to assist a mountain biker injured on the trails above Liberty Lake. Due to the steep terrain, crews brought a Utility Terrain Vehicle and alerted the air emergency unit about the potential need for a helicopter.
