South County Fire is celebrating the promotion of Battalion Chief Terri Fitzgerald, the agency’s first-ever female chief officer.
Fitzgerald has worked nearly 30 years in the fire service, beginning her career in 1995 as a volunteer for Chelan County Fire District 1. She joined South County Fire as a firefighter/paramedic in 2003, later promoting to captain.

VIDEO: A Tacoma woman who was convicted of murder and over a dozen counts of arson was sentenced to more than 80 years in prison on Tuesday.
Sarah Jane Ramey set a string of fires in Tacoma and Ruston between late December 2021 and late January 2022, the first of which caused the death of James Elliott, a father and grandfather who lived in North Tacoma on Rosemount Way.

Video from the Hookies Fire Company in Tyrone shows an incredible first-person view of local firefighters battling a blaze in Blair County.
Officials say firefighters battled a shed fire early Monday morning along the 100 block of Pot Pie Hill Road in Snyder Township.
Authorities say no injuries were reported and responders say the flames didn’t spread to any other buildings.
