2 men airlifted after rollover crash splits pickup in half in Centralia

Two men are hospitalized in serious condition Thursday after their truck rolled over an embankment and nearly split in half. Police and medics responded to the scene, near North Gold Street and Ham Hill Road in Centralia, just before 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a rollover crash. Responders found that a pickup had rolled more than 20 feet down an embankment.

New Yakima firefighters practice rescues from burning building

Some of Yakima's new firefighters are training on life-saving techniques. They're practicing how to rescue people from a burning building at their training facility. Part of the training involves getting a person out of a window from three stories up. They also practiced going into a smoke-filled room and rescuing a firefighter in need.

Maintenance worker helps save people in West Seattle fire

A man risked his life to save others when the flames were raging at a West Seattle apartment complex Tuesday. Smoke rising from the fire could be seen for miles as crews fought the multiple-alarm fire at the Lam Bow Apartments on Delridge Way. A building maintenance worker is being credited for saving lives, along with the firefighters who were still at the scene Wednesday morning.

Fire in Pasco being investigated as suspicious

An early morning fire kept Pasco Police and Fire crews busy throughout most of Wednesday morning. The fire, being investigated as suspicious, happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of South 4th Street. When firefighters got on scene they found a 10-by-10 shed completely engulfed in flames. Authorities say a man had been living in the shed, but say no one was in the out-building at the time of the fire.

Follow Up: Communication is biggest lesson from mass-rescue drill near Port Angeles

Coordinating communications among some 14 agencies was among the top priorities during the U.S. Coast Guard-led international mass-rescue drill in the Strait of Juan de Fuca on Tuesday. The Coast Guard worked with several local agencies — including law enforcement, firefighters and paramedics — as well as Canadian first responders to simulate rescuing 60 people from the Strait after a maritime disaster about six miles north of Port Angeles.
