Detroit (MI) Firefighters Accused of Being in Bar on Duty, Suspended from Department

Two Detroit firefighters were suspended from duty after they were accused of being in a bar on the job Saturday, reports WDIV.

The police were called to a bar in Melvindale with a fire engine parked out front to investigate a complaint of disorderly conduct. Firefighters told the office that they were attending a send-off dinner for a colleague, but that they were not drinking. At the officer’s urging, the firefighters and the fire engine moved on from the bar.

The fire department, however, sent the two firefighters involved, one of them a lieutenant, for alcohol testing, which reported one had alcohol in his system. The two firefighters were suspended.

Acting Fire Commissioner Chuck Simms told WDIV that, “I’m not going to tolerate that.”
