Cincinnati (OH) Fire Department to Order Two New Fire Trucks

The Cincinnati Fire Department says it anticipates taking delivery of a new fire truck and two new ambulances—apparatus totaling $1.1 million, reports wvxu.org.

Department officials say their budget is a mess, which has slowed station and apparatus replacement projects. Its fleet has some fire trucks that are more than 20 years old, the report notes—with one vehicle that’s even older than some crew members.

The purchase would be in addition to the regular budget, and the funds would come from via the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act. City council is expected to approve the purchase in the coming weeks, according to the report.

Once ordered, a new fire truck can take up to 18 months for delivery.

East Burke (VT) Fire Chief Buys Fire Truck for Department; Dedicates it to His Parents

Chief Wayne Greer of the East Burke Fire Brigade bought a new fire truck for the department and donated it for a dollar to honor his parents.

Henry and Virginia Greer were both founding members of the department, and dedicated their lives to serving the fire department. They instilled the same pride of service into their children, who have also served key roles on the department, the department said in a Facebook post.

The gift is a 1997 E-One Hurricane with a 750-gallon tank and a 1,750-GPM Hale Pump.

Once in service, Rescue 4 will be stationed in East Burke Village and will respond first due to all motor vehicle accidents, vehicle fires, carbon monoxide or propane emergencies, Mutual Aid RIT, and will also respond to Kingdom Trails calls, for additional manpower and tools.

Additionally it will serve as second due engine to structure fires in town.

Midwest Fire Equipment & Repair Company Awarded Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing Contract

(LUVERNE, MN) 3/21/22 – Midwest Fire Equipment & Repair Company (Midwest Fire) announced today that it has been awarded a contract as an approved supplier for Sourcewell, a cooperative purchasing organization located in Staples, MN. The Sourcewell contract applies to most of the apparatus Midwest Fire offers.

“Obtaining this Sourcewell contract is not just an important distinction for Midwest Fire,” said Midwest Fire Owner and CEO Sarah Atchison. “It is all about making things easier for our customers. Many agencies, municipalities and cities have specific needs and requirements to purchase equipment using grants.  These grants require specific pricing and multiple bids. Sourcewell helps simplify the process for them by offering a variety of contract-awarded vendors from whom to attain and review bids. Customers will still receive the personal care when they choose to move forward with us, but we want to continue to add value for our customers by making things even easier for them.”

The burdensome bid process required by most agencies for purchasing new apparatus still exists, however Sourcewell has fulfilled it already with their RFP process. Their services are available to government agencies throughout the United States.
