St. Louis (MO) Fire Department Robbed While Fighting Fire

The St. Louis (MO) Fire Department is asking for help locating some equipment that was stolen from an apparatus Wednesday around 3:15 a.m.

Two saws—a Husqvarna K970 and a STIHL 16” chainsaw—were stolen as crews battled a fire in the 4000 block of N. Kingshighway.

FDIC 2022 Preview: 16 Roadway Safety Strategies from Lessons Learned

This class will cover the lessons learned and the changes implemented in the wake of several struck-by incidents. The dangers the roadway presents to emergency responders is extremely high. Roadway safety education and other proactive steps to improve roadway safety is often overlooked by departments until they experience a struck-by incident. In January 2020, a struck-by incident killed a firefighter and a police officer and critically injured another firefighter in Lubbock. Irving, Texas, has had several near misses, several apparatus struck, and a firefighter was injured in December 2020 by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a section of roadway that was closed to all through traffic. Learn from these case studies to make your roadway operations safer for your personnel.

Macon-Bibb County (GA) Fire Department to Hold Live-Streamed Push-In Ceremony for New Pumper

“The Macon-Bibb County (GA) Fire Department is excited to announce and dedicate the newest addition to our fleet–a fully customized 2021 Sutphen Pumper.

“To celebrate the arrival, we invite all to attend our First Push-In Ceremony. This ceremony will take place at our #2 Fire Station located on 495 Monroe Street on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 4:00p.m.

“This apparatus was purchased using voter-approved SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds and will replace our similar but outdated truck built in 1996.

“Our department will be live streaming this event through our Facebook page for those that are unable to attend.”

Castor (Alberta, Canada) Firefighter Killed, Chief Injured in Apparatus Rollover

A volunteer firefighter was killed and a fire chief was injured Friday evening when their apparatus lost control on ice and rolled en route to a call.

The Castor (Alberta, Canada) Fire Department was responding to a motor vehicle accident on secondary 599 with roads icy and hazardous.

“One of our trucks lost control on the ice and rolled. As a result, our Fire Chief, Patrick Kelly was injured, we pray for his speedy recovery,” the town writes on Facebook. “Tragically Fire Fighter Stephen Rayfield did not survive the horrific event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rayfield family.”

Thieves target Yakima County fire station, steal several sets of fire gear

Thieves in Yakima County targeted a local fire station, stealing protective equipment firefighters need to keep the community safe. The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office says the gear was stolen from Yakima County Fire District #5 in Wapato sometime in the last week. The fire department says 10-12 sets of protective clothing were taken, along with medical supplies.
