The Cape Coral (FL) Fire Department received help fighting a garbage truck fire Thursday morning from good Samaritan Andrew Gonzalez.
Around 10:45 a.m., the department’s Engine 11, Truck 4, and Battalion 2 were responding to a call of a vehicle fire in the Sandoval community. When crews arrived, they found a Waste Pro truck on fire and Gonzalez spraying it with a hose to contain it.
As per policy, Waste Pro dumped the load and firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. There were no injuries reported, and Waste Pro cleaned up the dumped garbage.
Gonzalez received a Community Recognition Coin for his actions.
