What's new with Fire Station 81 in Florida? It's bigger and better

PHOTOS: It’s been a year in the making, but the DeLand Fire Department’s new fire station, Fire Station 81, is set to open its doors for regular operations Tuesday, Jan. 18. The new station, at 343 W. Howry Ave., will replace the current fire station at 201 W. Howry Ave. So what’s new about the city’s newest fire station? The new Fire Station 81 is 16,000 square feet, an improvement over the old Fire Station 81, which totaled around 9,000 square feet.

University of Alabama at Birmingham study serves as ‘how to’ guide for innovative stroke response system

Skagit County Fire District 3 gets full-time chief with local roots

Southwest Skagit County is different today than it was when new Fire District 3 Chief Chad DeVlieger grew up in the area. The makeup of fire district volunteers has changed, too, said district Commissioner Matt Stratton. “It’s getting harder and harder for us to find volunteers these days, especially during the daytime because most people aren’t farmers anymore,” he said.

Fire erupts at Redmond strip mall

PHOTOS: A restaurant fire has firefighters up and working early Friday in Redmond. The one-alarm fire started in the 16100 block of NE 87th St. in Redmond around 4:30 a.m. Firefighters tell KOMO News the fire started in a restaurant at a strip mall with five other businesses. Two businesses are completely destroyed and three others are being assessed.

Clark County firefighter dies of cancer

Clark County Fire District 6 announced the death of a longtime firefighter and paramedic, Joe Killian, Thursday. Killian served the district for 26 years before retiring 4 years ago. Shortly after his retirement, Killian was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer that is common among firefighters.
