Tom Eades leaves dispatch after 33 years to join San Juan Fire Department

After 33 years of dispatch service, Tom Eades is changing his career path and joining the San Juan Island Fire and Rescue. “I had brown hair — well, I actually had hair when I started this job I’ve been doing it for so long,” Eades laughed. Although staying at the San Juan County Sheriff’s Department for decades, this certainly isn’t the first time Eades has changed career paths.

Construction of new Olympic View fire station first of several in Kitsap County seismic upgrade plan

If a major earthquake hits Kitsap County fire stations in Central Kitsap, some older than 50 years may collapse. Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, as part of a bond approved in 2020, has begun the work to lessen that risk. On Wednesday morning, a groundbreaking ceremony where the new Olympic View Community Fire Station will be built over the following 12 months marked the first step of a series of CKFR's projects to combine, replace or remodel its nine fire stations.

Crews contain fire at Lakewood warehouse

Investigators are looking into what caused a fire at a Lakewood warehouse overnight. Crews responded to a report of a commercial fire at about 1 a.m. Friday in the 9200 block of 51st Avenue Southwest within the Lakewood Industrial park. West Pierce Fire and Rescue said crews contained the fire and there was a sprinkler system in the building.

McKinney (TX) Fire Department’s Station 11 in Service

The McKinney (TX) Fire Department Wednesday opened its Station 11, located in the Craig Ranch area.

At 6:30 a.m., dispatch announced the closing of Station 8, and the opening of Station 11, which will house Engine 11 and Med 11.

The department plans to hold an official opening ceremony later in the spring.

Ground Broken for Hinesville (GA) Fire Department’s New Station

The ball is officially rolling on the Hinesville (GA) Fire Department’s new station.

At 11 a.m. Wednesday, the ground-breaking ceremony was held.

The facility, approved in January, is being built at the same location as its predecessor.

The 17,000-square-foot station will be more than double the size of the last one, and will feature five drive-through bays, 13 dorm rooms, and an administrative building.
