Firefighters union in New Jersey loses lawsuit, but wins new safety measure

Though the township's firefighters union has lost a court battle, it has won a victory in its fight for new safety measures. A state appeals court has thrown cold water on the union's request to seek arbitration on a grievance about manpower levels in the fire department, that arose after a May 2020 apartment building fire that left more than 30 tenants temporarily homeless.

FDNY firefighters carry Ukrainian flags during run in show of solidarity

VIDEO: A group of FDNY probationary firefighters carried Ukrainian flags among U.S. flags as they ran across Ward’s Island Bridge in New York City on Thursday, March 3, in "a show of solidarity and support for the people and first responders of Ukraine," the FDNY said. Member of Chelan County Fire District 1 Gets National Award

A member of the fire district that serves Wenatchee is being recognized with an award. Jon Riley with Chelan County Fire District 1 is getting a Wildfire Mitigation Award from the International Association of Fire Chiefs. The district says Riley has excelled in his role to educate and help homeowners cope and recover from wildfires, which have a long history in the area.

South Fulton (GA) Hosts Camp Embers to Give Girls a Look at Firefighting Careers

The South Fulton Fire Department is hosting a fire and rescue camp designed to introduce girls to firefighting careers.

While 10% of the South Fulton department is made up of women, firefighters hope Camp Embers, a three-day fire and rescue camp taught by firefighters who are women, will help boost those numbers to better reflect the community.
