Rising gas prices are impacting the fire industry, too.
Aurora Fire Protection District officials say it can run upwards of $75 to fill up their apparatus, reports ky3.com, but volunteers in the district only get reimbursed $8 per call.
They add that the high gas prices make it difficult to recruit and retain volunteers—the district usually has between 30 and 35 volunteers but right now has just 25, according to the report. And in the last six months the district has had zero firefighter applications when it usually gets 10-12 per month.
